With support from the Grant, the Girls for Girls project empowered adolescent girls and young feminists in Kawempe from April to November 2024. The initiative provided 10 girls with hands-on training in tailoring and creative fashion, equipping them with sustainable livelihood skills while also boosting their self-confidence and personal growth. Through this initiative, six of the trainees have launched small income-generating activities, and two have gained employment through a partnership with Kwera Uganda Limited. One trainee, Nabukalu Rahmah, has since emerged as a youth leader of Keti Falawo, further demonstrating the project’s transformative impact.
The initiative has created a safe space for peer support, opened dialogues on leadership, gender based violence, and also nurtured a growing network of young change-makers who are committed to building a more equitable community. Building on the momentum from the 2024 initiative, the team envisions scaling the program by establishing a Girls Creative Hub, which will be a space for alumni to continue learning, innovating, and training others.
