Anti-Domestic Violence centre

With support from the Learning Initiative Grant, members of the Anti-Domestic Violence Center (ADOVIC) implemented an Urban Farming in Schools project aimed at educating girls on the intersection of climate change and gender-based violence (GBV), while equipping them with practical urban farming skills. The initiative reached 80 girls aged 13 to 20 years across three communities, combining theory and hands-on sessions in two schools and one community center. Girls were taught to grow vegetables using recycled plastic containers. They also learned sustainable agricultural practices that promote food security, environmental awareness, and economic independence.

These sessions created safe spaces for learning and open dialogue around climate change, GBV, and self-reliance. Many participants replicated the farming methods at home and harvested food for personal use. Despite scheduling challenges with some schools, the project met its key goals and successfully raised awareness about climate justice, GBV prevention, and the power of youth-led environmental action.
