A hand For a Refugee

A hand for a refugee, were able to launch an initiative that focused on reducing gender-based violence (GBV) in the Kyangwali Refugee Settlement, Uganda. The initiative empowered women and girls through sustainable agricultural training, access to farming inputs, and the formation of gender-inclusive farmer groups. With the support from the grant, the initiative was able to address issues such as economic dependency and limited livelihood opportunities, resulting to enhanced participants financial independence and strengthening their decision-making power within households and communities. Through the initiatives advocacy, over 40 women reported reduced domestic tensions, increased self-confidence, and stronger support systems. The initiative also engaged men in sensitization sessions, fostering shared responsibilities and mutual respect. Overall, the initiative helped towards improved food security, a significant decline in reported GBV cases in the area.
