Economic Power x Young Somali Women

Organizational Bio

Economic Power, in partnership with a collective of young Somali women in Garissa, is pioneering an initiative to document the stories of resistance and resilience among adolescent girls and young women through film and storytelling. This collaboration merges Economic Power’s community-based experience in women’s empowerment with the creativity and voice of young Somali women who are determined to reshape how the world sees their community. Together, we aim to amplify authentic local narratives that inspire dialogue, understanding, and social change.

What’s Next for the Partnership

Under the initiative “Stories of Resistance,” we plan to train and mentor young Somali women in storytelling and short film production. The project will document the lived experiences of adolescent girls and young women — their courage, struggles, and triumphs — as they navigate education, culture, and opportunity in Garissa. We will host community screenings and storytelling forums to foster public dialogue and promote positive social change.
