Testimonials & Stories of Change

Impact Story: Julius Tease – From Struggles to Stability through VSLA Empowerment

Julius Tease, 25, a father of two from Kihihi Sub county, Kanungu, dropped out in Senior Four due to lack of school fees. His life changed in November 2024 when he joined a VSLA group under The Inspired to Inspire Foundation’s Household Income and Food Security Program.

Starting small, Julius saved UGX 1,000 weekly, later borrowing UGX 250,000 to start farming tomatoes and coffee. With determination, he increased his savings to UGX 3,000 and qualified for a UGX 1,000,000 loan from a UGX 10 million seed fund.

With this support, Julius planted 1 acre of coffee and 1 acre of tomatoes. Today, he has become the major tomato supplier in Kanungu and is able to pay school fees for his children, breaking the cycle of poverty.

“This savings group gave me more than money—it gave me a future.”
Julius TwebazeJulius’ journey demonstrates how the VSLA model empowers rural families to improve their livelihoods, achieve stability, and invest in their children’s education.

Impact Story: Ayebare Shalloon – Sewing a New Future

Ayebare Shalloon, 22, a young mother from Kihihi Sub County, was forced to drop out of school at Senior Three due to pregnancy. With no source of income, she struggled to provide for her child.

In April 2024, Sylvia joined The Inspired to Inspire Foundation’s Skilling Program and received tailoring training on one of the sewing machines purchased through project funding. Within six months, she mastered tailoring and began earning an income by sewing school uniforms and dresses in her community.

Today, Shalloon supports her child’s education and dreams of opening her own tailoring shop.

“TIIF gave me skills that no one can ever take away from me. Now I can work and care for my child with dignity.”

Markets and Clients

Current Status
TIIF is fast emerging as a leading supporter of orphaned and vulnerable children and youths in Kanungu District, especially in Kihihi Sub County.

Competition & Comparative Advantage

  • Compassion International: strong presence in Kanungu but not active in Kihihi.
  • WOOVC (Welfare Organization for Orphans and Vulnerable Children): based in Kihihi but supports fewer beneficiaries than TIIF.

TIIF supports more beneficiaries in Kihihi Sub County compared to WOOVC, and unlike Compassion, is deeply embedded at the grassroots with direct community-led solutions.

Unique Strategy

  • TIIF focuses on last-mile communities, combining education, livelihoods, health, GBV prevention, and environmental conservation in a holistic, one-stop approach through its academy.
  • Leverages VSLAs and community ownership models for sustainability.
  • Strategic partnerships with government, universities, and local leaders to maximize impact.

Current Needs
our biggest challenge is inadequate funding. To sustain and expand our impact, we urgently need:

  • Seed funding for the Empowerment Centre construction.
  • Start-up kits for women’s groups and young mothers completing training.
  • Core support to strengthen staff, volunteers, and program delivery.
  • Partnerships to scale climate resilience, GBV prevention, and youth skilling initiatives.
