Her Education Foundation

With support from the Learning Initiative grant and Twaweza, Her Education Foundation (in collaboration with Hadithi Hadithi) premiered a short film, “Nafasi,” on 20 September 2024 at Nafasi Art Space, Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. Inspired by the HEF founder’s own experience as a teenage mother, the film advocates for policy reform to allow young mothers, who are currently barred from returning to school under a law that prohibits them from attending school, to resume their education.

This Premier brought together 57 stakeholders, which included diplomats, activists, youth leaders, and civil society representatives, to confront the barriers teenage mothers face when re-entering school. The screening of the film was followed by a panel and Q&A sessions, which sparked powerful dialogue on stigma, policy gaps, and community responsibility. The event’s social media hashtags, #ArudiShule and #JamiiPamoja, broadened the conversation nationwide and also galvanized new partnerships committed to advancing girls’ education rights.

Anti-Domestic Violence centre

With support from the Learning Initiative Grant, members of the Anti-Domestic Violence Center (ADOVIC) implemented an Urban Farming in Schools project aimed at educating girls on the intersection of climate change and gender-based violence (GBV), while equipping them with practical urban farming skills.

Marafiki United Green Youths Initiative Limited

With support from the Grant, the Girls for Girls project empowered adolescent girls and young feminists in Kawempe from April to November 2024.

Kazi Women Foundation

Through its flagship program, Kazi Girls, Kazi Women Foundation empowered girls aged 8 to 16 to design and lead their own initiative.

A hand For a Refugee

A hand for a refugee, were able to launch an initiative that focused on reducing gender-based violence (GBV) in the Kyangwali Refugee Settlement, Uganda.

Girl Power Community Uganda

With the grant, Girl Power Community Uganda empowered over 500 girls and young women with disabilities, along with an additional 500 community members.

Mummies Touch Skills Development Centre

With the grant, Mummies Touch Skills acquired materials for making reusable diapers. The initiative plans to implement a training program that equips young women with practical skills in making of reusable diapers, and to support the participants to transform these skills into income-generating ventures.
